The Academic Year
The typical academic year at University of Turin is composed of a first semester that starts during the first week of October and finishes in the first week of February, and a second semester that starts from the first week of March and finishes towards the end of June. Classes are scheduled during both semesters, and exam sessions are held in February, June, July, and September. Exams are conducted by means of both a written test and an oral examination.
1st Year Subjects in the International Medical Course
The subjects of the 1st year may slightly vary from year to year, but they generally consist in:
- Basis of Human Morphology 1
- Biochemical and Molecular Basis of Metabolism
- Cell Biology and Genetics
- English and Italian Medical language
- Interprofessional Clerkship 1
- Introduction to Medicine
- Physics
- Preparatory Biochemistry
During the 1st year, classes are held 4 hours in the morning, from 9 am to 1 pm, and 4 hours in the afternoon, from 2 pm to 6 pm. For the next years, classes will be held only 4 hours in the afternoon, to allow students to attend (unpaid) traineeships in the morning.
To give you a better idea of how classes are spread out throughout the week, the picture below shows an example of timetable of the first year classes of Medicine and Surgery in English at University of Turin.
Tuition Fees and Turin Living Expenses
Tuition fees slightly change every year and they depend on the gdp of your country, as well as your family income (ISEE certificate). For the academic year 2023/2024, for example, depending on the student’s financial situation, the tuition fees at Turin University ranged from 156€ EUR to 2,800€ EUR per year.
As for the cost of living, Turin is less expensive than Rome and Milan, but still more expensive that Southern Italian cities such as Naples or Bari. Renting a room in a shared apartment, for example, could cost around €350/400 EUR per month. Of course, it is hard to estimate an exact amount, since expenses are very subjective, but if you know how to live low-budget, the total of all expenses (like means of transportation and food) per month could be something around €680 EUR.
To find your accommodation in Turin, there are a number of private individuals who rent students’ litters in areas close to university locations. With regard to students with economic needs, the University Law Enforcement Authority dictates a number of places for university residences.
Are there any Italian free courses at University of Turin?
First year students are expected to have a course of upgrading English and Italian. The University of Turin is part of a Consortium that aims to promote the Italian language and culture providing on-line Italian courses for foreigners. Students receive help from tutors, have free access to the dedicated forum and can follow all the courses entirely via web. Furthermore, the CLA (Centro Linguistico di Ateneo) of University of Turin organizes intensive and three-month Italian courses for Erasmus students, scholarship holders, PhD students, researchers at the University of Turin and any other citizen interested in learning Italian for study or work purposes.

Hello. One of my priorities is that the college has many exchange opportunities. Apart from Bologna, Milan and Rome, which college would have the most opportunities?
Every university has an ERASMUS program 🙂
