2023 IMAT Rankings and Cut Offs | Updated Weekly

As of 31st of May, 2024 this ranking has concluded and this page is correctly up to date. The EU scrolling is now finished, and the final cut off points can be found in the tables below. It took a total of 29 weeks for all of the EU scrolling to be concluded.

The 2023 IMAT rankings were released on Tuesday 7th of November, with the exact release time depending on UniversItaly for EU students, and the specific universities for Non-EU IMAT candidates. You can fine below the number of seats for each university, and their current cut off score. EU cut off scores will change for quite some time due to scrolling, so we will continue updating the page through out the next few weeks.

The EU seat numbers were added from this official document by the Ministry of Education, and the Non-EU seats from this official document

Important Information:

In order to enrol online in universities students have received an offer from, candidates must use the FISCAL CODE generated on UniversItaly. Later, they have to obtain the OFFICIAL FISCAL CODE from the Italian Embassy/Consulate of their area. Here is an overview of Italian bureaucracy to help guide you.

After the deadline for enrollment into the university, the online procedure will not be available, and not-properly registered candidates will be considered as renouncing.

        1. I am Muhammad Subhan . I am studying medicine in Portugal currently and i want to transfer my studies to Italy . Do i have to do the pre-enrollment ?
I am planning to give IMAT .

          1. Anastasia (AcadIMAT)

If you’re EU you don’t need to pre-enroll. If you are not, you need to pre-enroll. 🙂

    1. That is so rude, Mahad!!!
Serra, thank you for everything you do <3 please keep in mind you are wonderful!

  2. i sat for imat exam and now i got parma as my 5th choice but now i intend to do dentistry at sienna which is my 9th choice how can i get into sienna university is it posible

    1. I think once you’ve been booked into a higher choice university course, it’s impossible to drop down into a lower choice 🙁 You can try to contact Siena university to ask them, as well as universitaly!

  3. Hello, I just wanted to ask how many rounds took place in 2022 and how many do you think will happen this year considering that the grades are much lower in 2023 for EU students. Thanks!

    1. So I’m not sure how many rounds took place, as some of the universities probably filled up much quicker. I believe that for the last few spots in dentistry, it went on until the summer of 2023.

  4. Can you please advise as to how to check for open non-EU seats? As of today (November 14, 2023), I can only find the older non-EU rankings.

  5. APARAJITA CHOUDHURY

I applied for University of Bologna, but I am meeting the cut off for La Sapienza, Turin, and few more. How can I study Medicine and Surgery a.y. 2023 in any of these?

  6. Hello. Im just curious as to when you will put the second round cutoff scores for eu. I know the rankings only came out yesterday but I was just wondering when you’ll release them so I know when to check the website.

    1. It depends on the university, and also how fast your visa will be processed. The non-EU pre-enrollment process is to facilitate the visa application and make it faster; usually you have a few weeks 🙂

  7. Hello, is there a reason why the drop is so low compared to the previous years ? Is there a possibility for a bigger drop to occur ?

  9. Hi, will you do a review of Catania? I can’t seem to find much information on the internet and I’m sure most of us would appreciate a more in-depth look into the uni 🙂

  10. As an EU student, how long do you have to get the university after enrolling? Im debating enrolling into Messina but unsure of if I should wait until after Christmas break. Thank You!

  11. Hello, I’m a second backup for Messina University as a Non eu student. Last year, they took 3 backups but in this year they didn’t any announce about that. Do you think that I still have a chance or is it gone already?

  13. I have a family permesso di soggiorno in italy 🇮🇹
And i have non EU 12th qualification will i be included in EU category or Non EU?
    Plz help me

  14. Thinking of doing the IMAT this year after finishing my degree. I’m from the UK not sure how hard a score of 60 is as I want to apply Milan and live there. Bicocca is far from Milan if I was to stay there? Best start my prep after I finish my degree on the 1st June. I scored very high on the BMAT when I did that for UG but not sure how it translates so panicked haha

  15. Hi Serra, thank you for your efforts.

In your videos, you’ve mentioned that no ranking can truly rank these universities and that all have a very good quality of education. The cut offs in 2023, for most unis, were very high compared to previously – where 45 was good enough to get into most universities. Why do you think that is, better prep or easier questions? Furthermore, I’m looking to apply but as a non-EU student, I’m not sure how to make my ranking list. On the safe side, should I rank a university with more lenient cut off as my first (as that’s what they look at) or go for my choice? Super conflicted ;(

    Thank you again!

    1. Anastasia (AcadIMAT)

I think it is because more students are applying 🙂
Go for your choice, but if you want to be guaranteed to study Medicine in Italy, then maybe you should consider universities with the lowest cutoffs.

  16. Abdullah Siddiqi

Hello! I am studying in Czech Republic and I have long term residence permit for Czech republic. My original nationality is of Afghanistan. My question is will I be considered an EU or non-EU if I apply for IMAT?

  17. Hi I have a question ! Does Italian universities offer dentistry this year And if yes how many places will be available for eu

    1. Anastasia (AcadIMAT)

As of now, two universities offer dentistry in Italy: Siena (23 places) and Sapienza (19 places)

  18. As an EU Student, do I need to apply to the my university before I take the IMAT exam? Or can I apply directly using my imat score?

    1. Anastasia (AcadIMAT)

Hi 🙂 cutoff is the minimum IMAT points that was necessary for that year for that university.

  19. Pingback: IMAT 2023 - Everything You Need to Know

    1. Hello! The “cutoff score” just refers to the lowest score of the accepted candidates for a particular uni. It is not something the uni sets or decides. For example, since Sapienza has 13 non-EU seats, a non-EU candidate must have scored in the top 13 of candidates who chose Sapienza as their first choice. Purely theoretically, if the top 13th student scored a 30, then 30 is the cutoff score.

  20. why does in 2023 imat ranking of University of campania Luigi vanvitelli it was written eligible in front of the names of remaining students
